My mission: To spread as much happiness among those who like my work as is humanly possible.
What I write and why I write it: I originally started writing fantasy, sci fi, and gothic horror to escape parts of the world around me that I did not like. But then I found out about something wonderous—my imagination. Soon, I was no longer writing to escape, but to create. I found I could create worlds, then populate those worlds. Then I could take an individual from that world and give him a purpose, having him follow that purpose until the end of the story. And so, I found I could live through the character's eyes, by following these steps.
And yet there was more glee to be gained. For there is something even more fun than creating your own worlds and writing about them. And that is to look on the faces of those who read your work, and relive with them the scenes you have created. Seeing the joy on their faces redoubles your own. It's like a large chain reaction—the more they read, the more they enjoy, the more you like writing, the more you want to write, the more you can see them enjoying your work. Essentially it's a viscious cycle. That's why I have kept writing and will always continue to write. Not so much for my own pleasure, although it's there, but to see the pleasure on everyone else's faces when they read it.
My philosophy on life and living: It has been said by many an individual, “Don't sweat the small stuff.” This is the doctrine that I myself live by. Unless your life is exploding before your eyes, it's all small stuff. You're first inclination is to PANIC! And panic always makes a small problem a very large one, which never does anyone any good. There's nothing you can't handle as long as you take a deep breath, take a few steps back, and relax.
Now I know you're going to ask yourself, how do I do this?
Practice, practice, practice! Without practice, you'll never learn the technique. But it is worth learning.
So whenever a problem comes my way, I slow down and try to look at it for what it really is—not what my mind has made of it. And this has led to a very contented life, at least from my point of view.
Other tidbits worthy of mention: I have been writing for more than thirty years, and I'm especially passionate about character creation. I have worked on a number of short stories and novels, and I've spent some time working on developing comic book characters. I often collaborate with other writers.
